Match Report: AFC Crewe Women 4–1 Liverpool Feds Reserves

AFC Crewe Women produced a dominant second-half display to secure an impressive 4–1 victory over Liverpool Feds Reserves at Wood Park. After a competitive first half that ended level, Crewe found another gear after the break, showcasing resilience, attacking intent and clinical finishing to claim all three points.

Liverpool Feds struck early, capitalising on a long ball over the top to take a 1–0 lead inside four minutes. Crewe, slow to settle, were nearly punished again on 5 minutes, but Quinn saved comfortably from a left-side effort.

Gradually, the home side grew into the contest. Donoghue, Mellor, Ellison and Noori all carved out promising moments as Crewe pushed for an equaliser. Their persistence paid off in the 24th minute when excellent work from Holly Ellison down the right set up Beth Donoghue, who calmly slotted into the corner to bring Crewe level at 1–1.

Both sides traded half-chances through the remainder of the half, with Mellor and Ellison threatening for Crewe while Feds tested the defence from set pieces. The teams headed into the break tied, but momentum was beginning to swing Crewe’s way.

The second period began with renewed intensity. After an early substitution, Crewe took full command of the match.

Superb interplay down the right freed Paige Dale, whose early low cross was met by Mellor. She delivered a clinical finish into the top corner to give Crewe a deserved lead.

Crewe continued to attack with purpose, with Donoghue and Ellison both creating danger around the box. Their pressure paid dividends again.

A corner caused chaos in the Feds penalty area and Chey Jarvis reacted quickest, guiding the loose ball home to extend Crewe’s advantage.

The home side refreshed their shape with further substitutions as they continued to dictate the tempo.

Ellison’s strike was well saved, but Jarvis was perfectly positioned to bury the rebound into an empty net, putting the result beyond doubt.

The final whistle confirmed a convincing 4–1 victory—one built on patience, hard work, and an outstanding second-half showing. Crewe’s attacking players were relentless throughout, with Jarvis and Mellor both on the scoresheet and Ellison influential in multiple phases of play.

This result adds another strong performance at Wood Park and demonstrates the team’s growing cohesion and confidence as the season progresses.

Now the curtain has closed on the 2024/25 season for our men’s and women’s teams, the Club can now confirm the players who will be departing. 

From our women's team, Darcie Tennant, Anabelle Medley, Issy Brand, Lucy Tam, Menna Shirras, Pixi Boo Nickless-Mooney and Katie Mallett time's at AFC Crewe is over, as university, work, or relocation deprives us of their services for next season.

Lancaster University Trio Darcie, Anabelle and Menna have brought an unreal level of skill and technical ability to the team in their respective positions, in no small part due to their futsal background. Absolute ballers! 

Issy Brand, Goalkeeper and Captain extraordinaire, has lead the team with passion, personality and enthusiasm, all whilst being an absolute worldie of a keeper.

Find us a better attacking full back than Lucy Tam! And whilst you're at it, show us a player who can cover that back line as quick and composed as Pixi could! We'll wait... 

Finally, shoutout to Katie, who despite a persistent knee injury, would show up no matter what! 

Since the inception of our Women's team two seasons ago, these players have been instrumental in getting us where we are today. We couldn't have done it without you.


AFC Crewe announce women's departures for 2024/25

Now the curtain has closed on the 2024/25 season for our men’s and women’s teams, the Club can now confirm the players who will be departing. 

From our Men’s team, Joe Jones, Aiden Brown, George Taylor-Fletcher, Jacob Brooks and Daniel Millington will be leaving the club. 

Joe Jones leaves to take up a scholarship in the US as of this summer. We wish him well state-side and he's welcome back any time. 

Aiden Brown departs after scoring 20 goals for the Club across the last two seasons, playing a key part in last year's double success.

George Taylor-Fletcher's first season in men's football has been a resounding success, and we look forward to what he does next in the game! We're sure we'll be seeing his name around the Football League in years to come. Huge thanks, too, for playing through injury for many months of the season to fight for the cause.

Jacob had already agreed to join Burscough Town closer to home, while Daniel departs after half a season with the club.
