Dominant Crewe Hit Four to See Off Warrington
AFC Crewe Women produced a superb all-round performance to record a convincing 4β0 victory over Warrington Town Women on Sunday afternoon. Goals from Charlotte Friesner, Sara Noori, Beth Donoghue, and a late own goal sealed a well-deserved win for the home side.
β½ First Half
Crewe started brightly and immediately put Warrington under pressure, with Holly Ellison testing the goalkeeper from the edge of the area inside the opening minutes.
The breakthrough came in the 10th minute when Ellisonβs free kick was parried into the path of Charlotte Friesner, who reacted quickest to tap home the rebound and put Crewe 1β0 ahead.
The home side continued to dominate possession, with Sara Noori seeing a free kick go narrowly over and Faye Pierce-Leahey threatening down the right flank.
Just before the break, Crewe doubled their advantage in stunning fashion. Noori picked up a loose ball around 30 yards out and unleashed a thunderbolt into the top corner β a goal that drew applause from both sets of supporters. Chey Jarvis provided the assist.
Crewe went into halftime leading 2β0 and firmly in control.
π Second Half
The second half began in the same manner, with Crewe continuing to create chances. Beth Donoghue and Friesner both saw efforts saved as Warringtonβs goalkeeper worked hard to keep the scoreline respectable.
Warrington threatened sporadically, but goalkeeper Ruby Quinn stayed sharp β watching one long-range effort drift wide and coming off her line smartly to deny a one-on-one chance.
Creweβs pressure finally paid off again in the 76th minute, when Faye Pierce-Leahey slipped a perfectly weighted through ball to Donoghue, who calmly slotted past the keeper for 3β0.
Six minutes later, Crewe made it four. Ellison played Pierce-Leahey in on goal, and although her initial shot was saved, the ball rebounded off a Warrington defender and into the net for an own goal, with Pierce-Leahey credited with the assist.
π Late Changes and Debut
With the points secured, manager Callum Wyatt made several substitutions to give minutes to the bench:
- Paige Dale replaced Ellie Darrell
- Simone Kelsall came on for Paige Williams
- Mellor was introduced for her debut, replacing Pierce-Leahey to warm applause from the home crowd
- Natasha Coumbaros entered late on for Friesner
