Mary Dendy 1982 v AFC Crewe - Match Preview
Good things happen to those who wait and the viral AFC Crewe fanbase has been patiently anticipating another match since the emphatic 10-0 win over Crewe Town nearly 2 months ago!
Although there have been no fixtures since last year due to the ever-changing English weather, the club has not stood still and many exciting developments have emerged from the NuFan community. An incredible Ground share with Alsager Town for their 3500 capacity Wood Park Stadium has been agreed as well as the emergence of our Women's team which aims to kick off in the 2023/24 season. The fantastic effort in such a short space of time shows the testament and talent of the thriving and ever-growing community.
AFC Crewe Chairman Liam was asked what he thought about the start of the season;
“I think the turnaround in club fortunes, bearing in mind AFC Crewe finished bottom with one win last season, is a testament to the Nufan takeover. The squad is full of quality and ready to hit the pyramid and that shows. Solid start to the season, and I know the lads are keen to get back at it after a long winter break.”
The fantastic work off the park can only whet the appetite for so long without our Saturday afternoon fixtures and 28th January will see Mary Dendy 1982 host The Rail Boys at the Mary Dendy Playing Fields for the first match in 2023 for the team in Yellow and Black.
This will be the second meeting between the sides this term, AFC Crewe coming up victors in the previous clash;
22/10/2022 (LEAGUE) AFC Crewe 6 - 1 Mary Dendy
Although Mary Dendy 1982 finds themselves 10th in the league, they recorded their second win of the season at the turn of the new year against 11th placed side Sandbach Town in a foot of the table dogfight which lifted Dendy off bottom spot. Could this be a change of fortune and the momentum that the home side needs ahead of tomorrow’s match against the league leaders?
When asked about the game tomorrow, Chairman Liam had this to say;
“We certainly won't underestimate the opponent tomorrow. We managed to get a 6-1 win against them earlier in the season, but that guarantees nothing this time around. But the conditions look ok, and the players are raring to go and pick up where we left off in December.”
With all previous matches being played at home, the ambitious community-owned team will be looking to emulate their form found at the mighty King George V Playing Fields on the road. Of the 3 games which have not resulted in a win, 2 of those have been away from home and this will be something ambitious AFC Crewe Manager Billy Murphy will be looking to shore up as this season is looking to go down to the wire with second place Winsford Saxons looking to capitalise on the games in hand;
When looking ahead to the rest of the 2022/23 season, Chairman Liam had this to say on what to expect;
“Goals. Lots of goals. We've worked on recruiting top attacking talent, and we've put together a side that is really, really, exciting to watch.”
This match is bound to produce goals, drama, and much more so as not to be missed by fans and neutrals alike! If you cannot get down to support The Railboys, you can tune in just before 2pm on the following apps;
